O nitreto de boro hexagonal é insolúvel em água fria. Quando a água é fervida, ela hidrolisa muito lentamente e produz uma pequena quantidade de ácido bórico e amônia. Não reage com ácido fraco e base forte à temperatura ambiente e é ligeiramente solúvel em ácido quente. Possui considerável resistência à corrosão a vários ácidos inorgânicos, bases, soluções salinas e solventes orgânicos.
